Under the direct supervision of the Senior Adviser, Support to the Global System of Trade preferences Among Developing Countries (GSTP project, INT 9X00M), Division on International Trade in Goods and Services, and Commodities (DITC), the incumbent shall assist in the administration and implementation of the Agreement on the Global System of Trade Preferences Among Developing Countries in general, and render technical assistance on trade negotiations among GSTP member-states, in particular. The main responsibilities and tasks of the incumbent include the following:
- Maintenance and updating of GSTP schedules of tariff concessions: In consultations with member-states, convert schedules of tariff concessions from old tariff nomenclatures into the latest version of the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System used by member-states in their national tariffs; assist in the re-negotiations or withdrawal of tariff concessions, merge schedules of tariff concessions of member-states entered into in previous rounds of negotiations.
- Research activities: Carry out substantive research on the implementation and administration of trade agreements, rules of origin and national tariff profiles; Compile and analyze statistical data
