Under the guidance of the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Europe, the Chief of the Sustainable Energy Division will provide an overall vision and leadership for the substantive work programme on sustainable energy, taking into account the concerns, situation and challenges of the ECE region, as well as the comparative assets of the ECE and the work of other relevant organizations active in these fields. This involves: i) servicing the ECE Committee on Sustainable Energy, and its subsidiary bodies, promoting agreements, norms and standards in the field of sustainable energy, and supporting their implementation; ii) organising and managing intergovernmental dialogue on sustainable energy issues, including regional preparation and contribution to ministerial meetings and summits, and their follow ups; iii) preparing studies on trends, issues and policies related to sustainable energy; iv) guiding technical cooperation activities (seminars and other capacity-building activities); v) monitoring and evaluating the performance of the Division and contributing to the achievement of the overall objectives of the organisation; Furthermore, within delegated authority, the Chief of the Sustainable Energy Division plans and manages technical cooperation projects in the field of sustainable energy and related policy areas in cooperation with the IAE, the Energy Charter, UNDP and all other relevant players, linking normative and operational activities and ensuring dissemination of results and lessons learned. Direct and supervise the work of the Division's staff, performing all relevant administrative functions, including preparation of budgets, reporting, recruitment, and fund-raising; contribute to ensuring achievement of ECE budgetary and human resources management goals. Foster teamwork and communication among staff in the Division and across organizational boundaries, promote mobility, dialogue and enrichment of skills across the different ECE Divisions, in the UN system at large, and beyond.
